Bando per una posizione di Post-Doc
Su richiesta del prof. Roberto Tuberosa e del dr. Silvio Salvi (DiSTA, Università degli Studi di Bologna) si riporta il seguente bando:
Postdoctoral research scientist position available at Department of Agroenvironmental Science and Technology (DISTA, University of Bologna, Italy) in durum wheat genomics.
Position: Durum wheat genomics, with focus on molecular approaches to identify, fine map and eventually clone loci of agronomic interest.
A full-time, postdoctoral position in durum wheat genomics is available for one year, renewable on yearly basis subject to performance. The Durum Wheat genomics laboratory at DISTA (www.distagenomics.unibo.it) is seeking for a motivated candidate to develop molecular tools for genetic studies and breeding applications in the area of durum wheat genetics and resistance to diseases (leaf rust, Septoria and Fusarium head blight) using genomics and comparative genomics approaches.
The applicant will work within the Italian funded “AGER-Agroalimentare e Ricerca” project (http://www.progettoager.it/), a collaborative project between granting Foundations aimed at boosting scientific research in durum wheat production.
Using existing genetic materials suitable for linkage and association mapping, the applicant will supervise the experimental activities (lab, greenhouse and field) required for the collection of phenotypic and molecular data for the mapping and eventually positional cloning of major QTLs for fungal disease resistances. The candidate will use and develop wheat genetic stocks and wheat genomic resources to identify SNP markers suitable for conversion to high-throughput detection systems for MAS applications.
Experience in DNA isolation, sequencing, genotyping, molecular cloning and expression analysis, quantitative RT-PCR, development of sequence-based markers is required. Previous experience in scale-up of molecular markers to high-throughput, SNP-based methods and proven ability to supervise the work of Ph.D. students will be positively evaluated. Proven ability to supervise and manage field trials will also be positively evaluated.
The candidate will supervise Ph.D. students and will interact with other cereal genomics researchers, plant pathologists and with breeders of a seed company for the development of markers suitable for marker-assisted selection activities.
Requirements: Ph.D. in plant genetics, plant breeding, plant pathology or other related disciplines with proven experience in plant genomics and good molecular biology skills.
The position is funded with salary commensurate with experience.
Review of applications will begin in March, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled. Interviews of short-listed applicants will first be carried out via Skype.
To apply, please submit a letter of interest (by e-mail) describing your research experience, CV, and e-mail addresses and phone numbers of two references. Candidates should contact by e-mail Prof. Roberto Tuberosa, Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie Agroambientali (DiSTA), Viale G. Fanin, 44, 40127 Bologna, Italy (I). E-mail: roberto.tuberosa@unibo.it.
