Tenure-track position in plant genomics (REF NUMBER – GENVEG2011)
Parco Tecnologico Padano is seeking to appoint a senior post-doc to join the Plant Genomics Section and work on association genetics in fruit trees with the objective of developing his/her own research group. The successful candidate should have a PhD and research experience in plant genetics or genomics and an interest in fruit tree biology. Experience in chemical analysis of quality traits in fruit trees and familiarity with whole genome association studies or quantitative genetics are desirable.
The position is available immediately and will be for three years initially with an appraisal after two years and the possibility of extension and transformation into a permanent position.
Starting salary will depend on experience and qualifications. According to the Italian legislation significant tax breaks may apply for researchers coming to work in Italy from abroad, or returning to Italy following a period (minimum 2 years) of residence abroad.
The Parco Tecnologico Padano PTP is multidisciplinary research organization that has active research groups in molecular genetics, molecular biology and bioinformatics. PTP established and manages the Lodi Science Park which incorporates University departments, Public and Private Research Organizations and start-up companies within a single-site Agricultural Science Centre of Excellence. PTP has a wide portfolio of projects funded e.g.: from the Italian Ministry of Research and Lombardy Region, the USDA, European Institutions and industrial sources. The PTP molecular biology laboratories are newly constructed operating exclusively at CAT II level. The Statistical Genomics and Bioinformatics Division develop and manage genomic databases, and complex project management bioinformatics systems, and develop new statistical methods for analysis of complex genomic data.
The Plant Genomics Section develops genomics research applied to cereals and fruit trees, with the aim of understanding metabolic and regulatory pathways involved in agronomic and quality traits. A major focus of the group is a long term research programme on peach structural and functional genomics for the identification of genetic determinants of quality traits, especially aroma. While our main areas of expertise are plant genomics, genetics and molecular biology, projects are based on multidisciplinary approaches and developed in collaboration with partners at the national and international level.
PTP is beside the historic city of Lodi, with its many diverse cultural activities, and sporting facilities. The South Adda Park is a biodiversity conservation area supported under the European Commission LIFE programme. The centre of Milan is a 20 minutes ride by direct train, and the Alps and Dolomite mountains, the coast and the Italian lakes, are within easy reach. Candidates should submit in confidence a complete CV, publication list, names and addresses of three referees, statement of research interests and accomplishments to: http://www.tecnoparco.org/.
Closing date for applications 01 September 2011.
