POSTDOC POSITION AT VIB
On May 15th, VIB launched omics@vib, a brand new international postdoc program, aimed at attracting excellent young postdocs for a period of 3 years to our institute. Successful candidates will carry out their own integrative biology project in one of our labs at the universities of Leuven, Ghent, Antwerp or Brussels. In addition, the program offers a wide variety of training opportunities as well as personal career coaching. For this call, VIB will select 10 ambitious young postdocs in integrative biology, "omics" and computational biology. Submissions should be sent in before the deadline of 31/8/2011. Interested in this opportunity, please visit us at: http://www.vib.be/postdoc.
PhD STUDENT AND POSTDOC POSITIONS OPEN IN PLANT FUNGAL INTERACTIONS
PhD student and post doctoral positions are available in the plant-fungal interaction group lead by Kirk Overmyer in the Plant Biology Division at the University of Helsinki, Finland. This group takes a multi disciplinary approach to address molecular mechanisms of fungal pathogenicity and plant resistance to fungal pathogens. There are two projects currently available. Position I involves the characterization of fungal pathogen response mutants of Arabidopsis. Position II involves the development of Taphrina species as model pathogens. Taphrina are plant pathogenic yeasts that cause tumor-like symptoms on their hosts, such as witchesâ brooms on birch trees and leaf curl diseases on peach and poplar. This project includes the sequencing of a Taphrina genome and yeast/fungal comparative genomics. The positions open in September 2011 but start times are negotiable. Funding is secured for at least 3 years. Applicants with a strong background in plant genetics, molecular biology or biochemistry and/or fungal/yeast genetics or genomics experience are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should send 1) a cover letter describing previous achievements, future career ambitions and motivation for this position; 2) Curriculum vitae with a list of publications and contact information of two referees to the email address: kirk.overmyer-at-helsinki.fi. The deadline for application is June 6th, 2011; however, late applications will be accepted until the positions have been filled. More information is available at the group website: http://www.helsinki.fi/plantfungal. Please feel free to make informal inquiries by email (kirk.overmyer-at-helsinki.fi).
