The Evolutionary Systems Biology lab of the Department of Plant Systems Biology at VIB/Ghent University is looking for a talented PhD student to work on the evolution of biological systems (4 year scholarship).
Brief project description:
The goal of the Evolutionary Systems Biology lab is to understand how biological systems work and how they evolve. This project will focus on the evolution of simple synthetic and natural molecular systems with detailed dynamical models and in silico evolution techniques. The ultimate goal is to be able to evolve systems toward pre-specified target phenotypes that can be verified in a wet-lab setting.
Profile:
- Master degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Biological Engineering, Computer Science or Bioinformatics
- Strong interest in molecular biology and evolution
- Fluent in English and a programming language.
Please e-mail your CV, a letter of motivation and the contact details of three references to Dr. Steven Maere (steven.maere@psb.vib-ugent.be). More info about the lab can be found at http://www.psb.ugent.be/esb/. The anticipated start date of the project is January 1, 2011.
