EFSA calls for scientists
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has launched a call (1) to renew the membership of the ANS and CEF Panels and (2) to expand the reserve list of its Scientific Committee and its other 8 Scientific Panels. Scientists are invited to respond to the call, which closes on 15 September 2010.
EFSA is inviting applications from highly qualified scientists from Europe and beyond, with expertise in a wide range of scientific fields such as food additives and nutrient sources, food contact materials, flavourings, toxicology, contaminants in the food chain, biological hazards, GMOs, feedstuffs, plant health and plant protection products, animal health and welfare, dietetic products, allergies, novel foods and nutrition. Applicants should demonstrate experience in carrying out scientific risk assessment and have proven scientific excellence in one, or preferably several, of the fields in EFSA's remit.
The Panels which are being renewed and for which also a new reserve list will be created are:
- Panel on food additives and nutrient sources added to food (ANS)
- Panel on Panel on food contact materials, enzymes, flavourings and processing aids (CEF)
Panel members are being appointed for 3 years and have a mandate from July 2011 to July 2014.
The Panels whose current reserve list is being expanded are:
- Panel on Animal Health and Welfare (AHAW)
- Panel on Biological Hazards (BIOHAZ)
- Panel on Contaminants in the food chain (CONTAM)
- Panel on Feed Additives and products or substances used in animal feed (FEEDAP)
- Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)
- Panel on Dietetic products, nutrition and allergies (NDA)
- Panel on Plant Health (PLH)
- Panel on Plant Protection Products and their residues (PPR)
- Scientific Committee (SC)
When a specific need is identified, members of the Scientific Committee or Scientific Panels may be replaced or, according to the circumstances, may increase in numbers. Replacement or new members will be selected from the reserve list. The mandate will run from March 2011 until the mandates of the current Scientific Committee or relevant Scientific Panels expire in the summer of 2012.
The call has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union and on EFSA's website. A full information package on the call for expression of interest is available at the following link:
