Job vacancy at the Johann Heinrich Von Thunen-Institute
The Thünen Institute of Forest Genetics, one of the 15 Federal Research Institutes for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries in Germany, is offering a 3-year part time position (65%) starting as soon as possible for a PhD Student (research associate) to work on the DFG-funded project “Genomics of sex determination in the conifer species Taxus baccata L. (TaxGen)”. This project is designed to combine unique genetic material, available at the institute, with cuttingedge genomic tools to sequence the genome of Taxus baccata in collaboration with a DFG sequencing centre. The genetic basis of sex determination will be analysed in this dioecious species to address overarching questions regarding the evolution of sex chromosomes and plant sexual systems. The position, within the genome research group, will allow the applicant to pursue an academic qualification (doctorate degree) in cooperation with the department of biology of the University of Hamburg. It complies with the German wage agreement for the civil service sector (TVöD Bund). Salary is up to E13 (65%), depending on the applicant’s personal qualifications. Additional information is available from PD Dr. Birgit Kersten (birgit.kersten@thuenen.de; 0049 4102 696 105).
