The demand
for Genetic traceability has significantly expanded since few years with the
arrival of GMOs and the advance of
the Identity Preservation concept. However, other quality controls at
different steps in the food production chain have also been put in place :
from varietal identification of commercial seed lots prior to commercialization
to the verification of ingredients in bread making for example. All
professionals increasingly the information they need about the plant material
they are handling.
Through the
anticipated future flow of genomics, along with the tracking of new genetic
constructs and new plant varieties becoming closer genetically and
phenotypically, the need for safe food , the selection of better varieties
adapted to specific uses, the quality control of raw food stuff, are important
issues which genetic traceability can help tackle.
This
presentation will outline the systems used at Agrogene, including the norms in
place and some practical examples of Identity preservation.
